Intense Continues as Sponsor of USAC Junior Development Camps

CERRITOS, CA--VSI Products has again signed on as the main sponsor of the USA Cycling Junior Development BMX program. VSI became a supporter of the program in 2009, providing product, technical support and cash funding, and will continue in that role through the end of the program's season in July.

As it did last year, VSI will provide support to USA Cycling's series of quarterly junior development camps in the form of product, including frames, components and accessories from Intense BMX, SINZ Elite and SINZ, Intense Tyres and THE Products. It also will play an active role at the camps, supporting more than a dozen 15- and 16-year-old campers at each of the four sessions.

"This provides a unique opportunity to see some of the country's top young BMX riders up close on a Supercross track and allows us to spend time with the riders off the track. This partnership helps us identify those in the next generation of BMX talent who share our company values and recognize future sponsorship opportunities," said Michael Gamstetter, marketing manager of VSI Products, the parent company of Intense BMX.

At the last camp in November, USA Cycling welcomed junior riders to the campus of the United States Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California. The athletes were selected through the ABA Junior Development series and invited by USA Cycling coaches based on several factors, including past results and future potential. The camps include training sessions on the Supercross BMX track, instructional clinics on nutrition, weight training and sports psychology, baseline physiological testing and Q&A sessions with professional BMX riders.

The November camp was the second in the 2011 schedule. The next camp is scheduled for April 2011 and will be followed by the last of the year in July.

"The added support of VSI and Intense BMX helps give the country's top young BMX prospects the opportunity to focus on training and make the most of their time on the Supercross style track," said Mike King, USA Cycling's BMX programs director. "With first-rate assistance both on site and behind the scenes Intense BMX helps make it possible for these kids to achieve full potential."

As programs director, King provides direction and instruction to camp attendees while U.S. Challenge Class team manager Brian Fell and certified USA Cycling coaches and BMX experts Kenth Fallen, Jerry Bradford and Jeff Glynn serve as coaches.
