2010 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup kicks off in Madrid Spain this week!
Madrid 22 March 2010 - On March 26 and 27 Madrid is once again host to the first stop of the 2010 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup presented by Swatch. More than 170 Elite riders (men and women) from 25 countries will compete. This premier BMX Racing series consists of five events during the 2010 season. The Supercross races are the main qualifying events for the 2012 Olympic games and feature total prize money of €100’000 (135,000US$) per year.
The Madrid event will be held in the Palacio de Deportes, a magnificent indoor arena in Spain’s capital. Over 3.000 m3 dirt will be brought into the arena to build the spectacular BMX Supercross track. Here is a link to the track layout.
This will be the first time in 2010 all Elite riders will meet. Over the winter a number of them raced in the North American competition. Sam Willoughby (AUS), last year’s overall men's World Cup winner, still looks like the man to beat. In the ABA Winter Nationals in Phoenix Arizona on March 5 and 6 the current Junior World Champion was again a strong performer. |
In the women's competition Shanaze Reade (GBR) is back on the bike again and also looked strong in the mud of Phoenix. Reed will give last year’s consecutive Supercross World Cup winner Laëtitia Le Corguillé (FRA) a run for her money in 2010. See a 2010 season preview video that gets you up to date in a few minutes.
For all the fans worldwide, the UCI BMX Supercross has a lot on offer. Each round of the Supercross World Cup 2010 will be webstreamed live. Watch freecaster.tv on Saturday 27 March. Last year, over 600,000 viewers headed over to www.freecaster.tv to view the exciting format of UCI BMX Supercross race action, as well as watch the UCI BMX World Championships. On top of that all our European fans can tune in to Eurosport 2 as well.
Still to be confirmed is the season’s finale in Monaco, just a week after the Fréjus stop. Imagine a very spectacular BMX Supercross track in the Monaco Harbour, creating the perfect setting for the season’s decider. Needless to say Monaco is also the ideal setting for the BMX annual awards ceremony.
