| Intense BMX race report ABA Gator Nationals |
Round 3 of the 2010 ABA Pro Series was held over the weekend of February 19-21 in Oldsmar, Florida. Oldsmar, just outside of Tampa has been on the ABA national tour for some time and it’s always a race that does not disappoint. The track was recently redesigned to the delight of the riders in attendance. This event was filmed for TV, to be aired on the ABA Show on the VS network, and local News stations. For the Intense BMX Factory team, Danny Caluag was the lone Pro rider to attend. David Herman and Arielle Martin are both sidelined with injuries and needed to pass up on the trip to the East Coast. David is recovering from a small stress fracture on his hip and Arielle is still mending from her crash at the last stop on the ABA Pro Tour; both riders will be back on track next month to join Danny. Intense/Phantom/Ontrac sponsored Pro Rider Nic Long was also in attendance, looking to continue to move forward in the AA Pro Class after his successful rookie Pro season.
Sporting the new Pro Team jersey Danny set out to race both AA Pro and Pro Cruiser this weekend. This was the biggest gathering of AA Pro/Elite Men in quite some time; with over 45 riders on Saturday this would be one of the toughest Pro main events to make. Danny rode stellar on Saturday with 3 great moto finishes of 2nd or better. In the quarterfinal, as can happen in the Pro class, one small mistake kept Danny from advancing. Danny would have to settle for a 3rd in the Pro Cruiser final for the day’s overall result. On Sunday Danny came back determined to make the stacked Pro Main event. He once again made it through the motos with great results and backed it up in the quarterfinal and semi finals to make the super stacked AA Pro Main event. Danny would wind up 6th for the day, but it was huge to be in the final.
Nic Long also had a great day on the track riding strong all day, battling his way into the ultra competitive final and finishing just off the top spot on the podium in the AA Pro final, placing 2nd.
