JvG race report SX Copenhagen
Race Report SX Copenhagen
Tuesday, 12 May 2009
Well im home for a few days now but its hard to type a race report with one hand, maybe some allready know that i have some fractures in my left hand from my crash in the third 1/8. Friday was timetrial, and they postponed it with 3 hours cause it was super windy.
Went back to hotel to chill a bit and prepair for my lap, the uci has new rules for timetrials, after the first round the best 32 are allready qualified for the race, that means that the rest has to set a new time, so if you mess up that lap your done, good example were my homiesTwan van Gendt and Glenn vd Wetering, they messed up theire second but based on theire first run they were qualified but that run doesnt count so they werent qualified for the race. My lap was not perfect but i set the 24th time eventually so i was happy with that.
Next day was race day, Pro warm up started a few minutes later because the Prince of Denmark arrived which is pretty good for the sport that Royalties are coming to watch us!! It was still a bit windy but it was better then the past days. The stands around the track were filled with people and finally racing started, i had heat 2 and lane 3 on the gate. My gate was good and I took the holeshot and took the win that race in (35.164 the fastest time of the weekend) i did not realise it till Rob van den Wildenberg.com told me that when we were back in the hotel. Anyway i was on low points, in my second heat i had lane 1, i cased both jumps on the first straight so  good old bloomfield (sorry men i had to say it:P) took the lead i followed him, going in to turn number 2 i didnt knew what was on the inside but i wanted to rail the turn smooth cause i didnt want to loose speed, but Barry Nobles came on the inside and he kinda made a aggresive but fair move on me, thats racing on the edge, and its something im not used to yet but i stayed on my bike and finished 4th. In my last round it was all about dont make mistakes and you are qualified for the next round, i knew top 3 was enough so i stayed behind Nobles and Bloomfield, but somehow Nobles cased a jump and crashed right when i was in the air, I couldnt move over so crashed and landed on my hand. That was it for me, i was racing pretty good and feeling comfortable on my bike on this track and then this happends, UNLUCKY is the right word I guess? I was qualified for the quarters but couldnt hold my handlebars so we decided not take the risk of crashing again. Ivo vd Putten won the mens final with Martijn Scherpen in 2 and the other dutch riders Van der Biezen got 4th and Sander Bisseling was good for place 6! Next day i drove back with the Dutch Development Team, after 8 hours drive my dad picked me up at a hotel in Zwolle from there we drove staight to a hospital, we took xrays and they found out that 1 bone in my hand is broken and 2 are fractured, its not sure for howlong im out!! ill keep you posted!!
