Between 1997 and 2000 i was running a GT team in england. During this time Jorg De louw was a rider and team manager for GT europe, so we already had a good friendship.
In late 2000 GT finished trading and left me with a great team but no bike deal, at this time Crupi already had a great name in BMX racing parts but did not produce a frame.
I approached Greg from crupi (formerly Greg Swingrover from S&M bikes, now running Crupi for owner Benny) to see if he could help, Greg jumped at the chance of expanding into europe.
We started in 2001 running GT frames With all Crupi parts, Answer forks and Crupi race kit. At this time i started importing Crupi parts and other high end race products and travelled all over europe selling and promoting Crupi products.
In 2002, with the help of Jorg, i decided to extend the team throughout Europe. Holland was a great place to start as their are alot of talented riders and parents that want their kids to run the best equipment money can buy.
A USA handmade product and using the best alloys available, Crupi were and still are some of the best products available today.
The demand was so great in europe by the end of 2002 Crupi were making there own USA handmade frames and still do to this day. By now we had a full european factory team racing the European circuit.
At the UCI worlds in 2004, i noticed a young group of kids that were all world class and to make things better...they were all part of the Schippers family. Jan (Jay, Jordi and Nicks dad) was very keen and wanted all 3 of his sons racing on the best bikes he could buy. In 2005 Jordi joined the team and became european and world champion on a complete Crupi. Jordi, along with other team members, went on to win various World titles and secured the challenge and championship World Champion trophy. Other companies saw the exposure the Crupi team were getting all over the world and wanted in on the action. CRUPI/ANSWER/TVE/LIZARD SKIN/661 all supported the team from then on in. 2005 saw Shimano Europe support the Crupi team, and they became one of our biggest sponsors. For the 2008 season, Crupi will be known as Crupi. I believe Fly Racing make the best racing apparel available on today's market, so Crupi and fly are 2 peas in a pod in my book. It is the 1st time Fly have supported a race team outside of the USA, so this is a great accomplishment for us.
Unfortunately the team has seen riders swap and change more often than we would have liked in the last 2 years due to the National Teams making riders choose one or the other. Our team atmosphere is always great and we do everything we can to make the riders job easier, all we ask in return is they try their best.
Over the last 2 years Jan and Jorg have become more involved in the team. After my daughter Charlie quit and my son Liam becoming heavily involved with the GB national team i feel it is a great time for Jan and Jorg to bring a new spark to the team. 2008 will see Jan as Crupi-Europe team manager and Jorg as assistant team manager and Mechanic.
